Ms. Grimes works at Google, where she uses statistical analysis of mounds of data to come up with ways to improve its search engine.
The rising stature of statisticians, who can earn $125,000 at top companies in their first year after getting a doctorate, is a byproduct of the recent explosion of digital data.

Though statisticians are hot and sexy, we should know it is actually very hard to get recruited by Google those days.

楼上说的有道理. 另外，我觉得主要还是语言沟通能力也很重要。老中统计Ph.D毕业，也不一定就能够找到Google. 有时候，语言比技术还重要.

Totally agree, even like Google those very technical company, language is also crucial, let alone those like banking or even consulting.

As always, I guess 会做的不如会说的。

Hey, the really great guy are both good at speaking and doing.
However ,from my perception, I think speaking is more like to be born while doing technical can be trained after birth.

Yoyo, I was about to say the same. It is easy to be tech-savvy, but, in terms of marketing, most of the time you have to rely on instinct.
Also, it is easy to find marketing guys, also easy to find tech guys. But, it is not easy to find someone who is both good at marketing and tech.
I guess great people have both talents, with a focus on either marketing or tech...
For me, I like technology a lot. But, heck, I am frustrated why the good high paying jobs are all marketing. So, I have started to learn marketing myself. Because I don't want to have a dead-end job without personal growth.
Make no mistake, I still like tech, but, good tech without marketing is like you got a good gun but shooting in the air. You don't know where the enemies are...

The aggravating aspect is that most Chinese folks here in the USA are bound to the limitation that we are foreigners. We don't know the culture and lack the professional network. That really sucks.
But, there should still be opportunities, if you are good at tech though. Small biz consulting on the tech side is a good start maybe. This is the best part in America.
In China, it is not easy to do small biz consulting I think.
