HP hired a new CEO. Leo Apotheker, was the former head of business software maker SAP. He signaled that expanding the company's software business will be a top priority. He said software is the "glue" that holds together the different parts of the company.
"Software is how we can make sure that the various parts of our technology actually fit well together," he said.
HP has been trying to build on its personal computer and printer businesses by expanding into technology services, data storage and security.
So, I take it that there will be more jobs for software developers in Hewlett-Packard, which is good for anyone majored in computer science. Given the current economy downturn in the USA, it seems to me the shiny spots would be with software and high-tech. As low end jobs are outsourced to China and India.
