| Founders at Work by Jessica Livingston This is a very inspiring business book to read. It not only covered the well-known software companies but also included a diverse collection from Apple to 37 Signals, Visicalc to Firefox. It covers a lot of ground from the early 80's software boom to the Web 2.0 starts ups. But there is more than just stories about starting companies, there is real advice from the front-line trenches of software start-ups. This book should shape your own journey to the final success of entrepreneurship. | |

| I've been reading Founders at Work lately. Listing this book under a Small Business Operations post like this, is a bit misleading, now that I think of it. The book told stories about a lot of world famous companies, especially the early stage of how they got started, such as Yahoo, PayPal, Apple, Adobe etc. My impression on small businesses in USA is that they are small-time entrepreneurs, for example, a flower shop, a plumber etc. Contrast to these small mom and pop companies, lot of the companies in Founders at Work got VC funding. So they are big businesses really. I think I might need to add a new post to list books that are more like Founders at Work than Small Time Operator. | |
