My Experience on Chase $200 Coupon Code For Checking Account

Recently we received in the mail a coupon card from Chase. It was a $200 coupon code for opening a new checking account with them.

Initially we were reluctant to open another checking account, as it just seemed too much work to maintain a lot of bank accounts. But then one day, a friend stopped by and saw the card. Told us that it was actually worth it and she had done that before.

We thought alright, $200 is a LOT of money, especially given that it is free money. So why waste it.

We went to the local Chase branch. At the entrance we were warmly greeted by a bank clerk and were quickly shown to talk to a personal banker. We sat down at her desk and went through the bit-lengthy process. Here are some of highlights:

1) Chase is quite aggressive in getting new customers
While we were there, we were introduced with a personal financial advisor, who tried to get us roll-over our 401k to Chase. The financial advisor even offered us FREE evaluation for our retirement account, as a way to get our business. Then, the branch manager stopped by to say hello, and apparently praising that their staff are very professional and would do whatever they could to provide us with superior financial services.

These were all very impressive. To be honest, I heard some bad words about Chase Bank in the past, from friends and colleagues, mainly regarding how Chase would charge extra fees. But, I must say that we felt like king from the time we walked into the bank.

2) The $200 coupon code actually has a hidden bonus
The personal banker told us that if we start a savings account with at least 15k, we would get $100 additional cash. I guess that's why the bank is called "Chase" ;-) Anyhow, despite pleasantly surprised, we didn't commit for a savings account. It is just too much money to deposit. So I told her that it was good, but we were not ready yet.

3) Make sure the account has a minimum of $1500 to avoid monthly maintenance fee
So you might wonder what's the catch for the FREE $200 cash reward? It is that the account has to maintain at least $1500 balance, otherwise, there is a monthly fee. However, for the first 2 months of opening the account, you only need to have $100 in the account. So monthly fee won't kick in until the 3rd month if the balance is not up to $1500. The banker is kind enough and tell us that she could waive the fee if we won't have the money ready by the 3rd month.

So basically, you only need to put in $100 to open the account and keep that amount for the first 3 months.

By the way, the $200 cash gift from Chase won't be deposited to your account until 2 months after the account opening.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience. On that same day, when we went into US Bank to deposit a check, the clerk there told us that we could setup a automatic monthly recurring transfer from our checking account to the savings account. When the transferred money totaled up to $1000, they would send us a $50 gift card. It is the USBank START Program.

In just one day, we saved/earned $250. I wish we could find more saving opportunities like this.

We got some extra money and deposited into the savings account in USBank. This contributed towards the USBank START Program as well. Since we've contributed over $1000, the teller lowered the automatic recurring transfer from checking into savings account to just $1. This keeps the plan going until we would get the $50 gift card.

Also, I am planning to keep the $1 transfer going for a year, then we would earn another $50 Rewards Card. Talking about free money ;-)

As an update, I also got a promotional letter from Chase for its Freedom credit card with $200 cash back.

It mentioned that I am per-approved and if I get it, I would get the $200 cash back once I make my first purchase with the card. Also, there is no annual fee.

This seems like a good offer but as I have couple other credit cards already, I am not sure opening another account is worthwhile.

Can someone email me the code for opening a Chase account ? Thanks

@Donna,
I don't know if the above code has expired or not, you may use it.

On another note, Chase is getting really aggressive to acquire new customers these days. For example, I just received another promotional letter from them. This time I am approved for $300 cash back for its Freedom credit card. Now that got me seriously thinking about getting a Chase credit card.

So, I don't know but this is my theory. Even if you don't have a coupon code for a Chase account, why not just go to a local Chase bank and ask them for that? Just tell them that you saw this coupon code promotion going on and see what's the best Chase could do.

@Jian
By any chance do you happen to have another one of these coupons? thanks!

@Edwin,
Sorry buddy but that's all I got for the code. If I have another one, I will send it your way.

One thing I heard from the banker is that JPMorgan Chase is the largest bank in the USA, boy, is that true...

When I deposited into the new Chase checking account at that time, because they have a grace period of 60 days, so I didn't put in enough money to make it above the required minimum balance of $1,500. Yesterday I got a letter from Chase that charged me $10 for account service fee.

So I called them up and argued about grace period. The banker recognized it was a mistake and fixed it.

So the take-away I got is, when you open a Chase account to take advantage of the $200 incentive, try to deposit the full amount upfront that meets their min. account balance requirement. Otherwise, it is just a time waste for calling them up to resolve this issue of the service fee charge.

Received another Chase promo gift card through the mail. This time it is for getting $125 when you open a new Chase Total Checking account. The coupon code is 4435035685840396. You can go to Chase Checking Online and use this coupon code to redeem the bonus cash.

Chase keeps sending me the freedom card mails, promising a cashback of $300. But for now, I already have Master and American Express cards, it is hard to manage more credit cards, so I would just throw those promotion mails to trash.

But I have to say, Chase is the one bank that's the most aggressive to get customers and also getting MORE from customers.

jian: if u get another $200 can you please send the code? thanks--also do these current codes require direct deposit set up?
12#  Jian 2012-03-23 15:57
lee: sure will do. I don't think they require setting up direct deposit. I didn't and still was able to get the $200. However, you have to satisfy Chase's min. balance in order to waive the account maintenance fee. I believe direct deposit is one way to do that, if you don't have a lot of fund in the account.

Folks, I really don't have any Chase coupon code these days. But if you have a spare one you don't need, you could add a comment below to share with others.
