What kinda of fund usually you guys invest in your taxable account, mutual fund or ETF?
ETF has low ER. It is tax efficient. It's just like stocks(you can short ETF). However you have to buy ETFs in your brokerage account, which means for each transaction you have to pay commission fee.
There are more mutual funds there. Couple thousands maybe. Only <200 ETF exist today. Mutual funds have actively and passively managed funds. But ETF are mostly passive.
Usually no transaction fee to buy mutual fund. Therefore, you can invest mutual fund using dollar-cost-average(for example, invest $100 per month)
However, you usually have to buy and hold mutual fund for a period of time to avoid redemption fee.
Mutual fund is only priced daily after the market closes. Mutual fund is usually not as tax efficient as ETF. (capital gains distribution, etc)
